Music Lesson FAQ

If you’re considering music lessons at Canton Music Academy, you may have a few questions. Below are answers to the most common things families ask before getting started.

What ages do you teach?

We work with students of all ages. Most children start around age 5, depending on the instrument and attention span. We also teach teens and adults at all experience levels.

Do you offer private or group lessons?

We specialize in private, one-on-one lessons because they provide the most focused and effective learning experience. Group options may be available at times, but most students benefit from private instruction.

How long are lessons?

We offer 30, 45, and 60-minute lessons. For younger students, 30 minutes is typically a good starting point. Older students and adults often benefit from 45 or 60-minute lessons.

How often do students take lessons?

Most students attend lessons once per week at a consistent day and time. Some students choose to take lessons twice per week, especially when they are first starting or preparing for a specific goal.

What instruments do you teach?

We offer lessons in piano, guitar, voice, drums, violin, bass guitar, ukulele, viola, cello, upright bass, saxophone, clarinet, flute, trumpet, and more.

Do I need my own instrument?

Yes, students should have access to an instrument at home for practice. For certain instruments, we can help guide you on rentals or what to purchase when getting started.

How do I schedule lessons?

Lessons are scheduled at a consistent weekly time. This helps students stay on track and build progress over time.

What if I need to miss a lesson?

If you need to miss a lesson, we recommend rescheduling within the same week when possible. Consistency is important for progress, and our structure is designed to keep students moving forward.

Do you offer virtual lessons?

Yes, we offer virtual lessons for all instruments. These follow the same structure as in-person lessons and are a good option for busy schedules or when commuting isn’t ideal.

Do students perform in recitals?

Students have the option to participate in recitals throughout the year. These events provide a clear goal and help build confidence through performance. Participation is always optional.
