Donate Sheet Music in Canton, MI: Give Your Music Books a Second Life
Have old sheet music or music books collecting dust? Maybe they’re from your childhood piano lessons, a child who has moved on, or a family member’s collection. Canton Music Academy will gladly take them and pass them on, free, to students who will actually play from them.
Thank you, Canton!Since we first shared this page, families from Canton, Plymouth, Westland, Livonia and beyond have dropped off box after box of music. Those books are already in use in lessons every week, and we’re still happy to take more.
What Music Books and Sheet Music We Accept
If it’s printed music in good, readable condition, we can probably use it. Our students study piano, guitar, voice, strings, woodwinds, brass and drums, so almost everything finds a home.
Not sure if something is a fit? Just ask. We’d rather hear from you than have you guess.

- Heavily marked-up or moldy books

Donated books become practice material, a teacher’s classroom resource, or the first book for a student trying a new instrument. A beginner piano book that sat on a shelf for years can start a new student’s musical journey.
Why We Do This (Even Though We’re Not a Charity)
We’re a private music school, not a nonprofit, so we can’t provide donation receipts or tax-deduction paperwork. We do this because good music books shouldn’t end up in a landfill. Students get to explore music they might not buy, families save money on materials, and donors know their books are being played again.

Do I need an appointment to drop off books?
Yes, please call or text (734) 667-4983 first. That way someone is here to receive your books and we have space ready for them.
Can I get a receipt for tax purposes?
No. Canton Music Academy is not a nonprofit, so we can’t issue donation receipts.
Do you accept instruments?
We only accept printed music and music books, not instruments or electronics.
How many books can I bring?
One book or a whole collection, it’s all welcome. For large collections, let us know roughly how many boxes when you call so we can plan for it.
Can students take books?
Yes. Donated books are offered free to our students and families. Ask your teacher or the front desk what’s available for your instrument.
